The 12 new GTA 6 screenshots published with Game Informer Issue 382 are the largest single drop of still images Rockstar has released since the cover art in June, and they are doing something the text of the feature does not. The written article gives you systems and figures. The images give you objects: specific aircraft, specific weapons, specific wildlife behaviour, specific weather states. Those are two different kinds of evidence, and the gap between them is where most of this week's bad takes are coming from.
Here is what is in the set, and what each frame can and cannot be used to argue.
What the 12 images show
Based on coverage of the issue from RockstarINTEL, Vice and others, the set breaks down roughly like this.
- A neon bar interior. A bearded biker in a patched leather vest, a woman in mesh nearby, other patrons playing pool. This is the clearest visual confirmation yet of billiards as a real location fixture rather than a line in an activity list.
- A Dodo seaplane over the islands during a thunderstorm. Water, tropical islands, visible storm. The Dodo is a returning Rockstar airframe, and this is the first time one has been shown in Leonida.
- A crop duster spraying an orchard. Farm workers, a white pickup, a water tower. Agricultural Leonida, not coastal Leonida.
- Hikers on a wooden bridge beneath a waterfall. A state park setting with ordinary pedestrians using it, which matters more than the waterfall itself.
- Vice City at dusk from the air. Marina, Ferris wheel, arena spotlights, lit skyscrapers. Our read on that vertical density is in the downtown Vice City skyline.
- Jason and Lucia on sun loungers on a crowded beach, umbrellas and sunbathers filling the frame.
- A night dock in the wetlands. Two men standing over water with alligators visible below and an airboat moored alongside.
- Jason on an ATV in a wooded creek, carrying a sniper rifle, with deer drinking from the stream.
- A store robbery in progress. Jason with a baseball bat, open register, clerk on the floor.
- Lucia in cover behind a shipping container with an assault rifle and a pink bandana, gang members near a van.
Two frames in the set have not been described in detail in secondary coverage, so we are not going to invent them.
The one frame everyone is over-reading
Image 8 is the problem child: a protagonist on an off-road vehicle, a long gun, and deer in the water. Within hours it was being circulated as proof of hunting.
It is not. A sniper rifle is a confirmed weapon category, deer are consistent with the 170-plus species count covered in the wildlife confirmation, and an ATV is a vehicle. Putting all three in one frame does not create a mechanic. Rockstar has confirmed a wildlife tracking log with Rare, Discoverable and Legendary tiers, and has confirmed nothing about hunting, skinning, crafting or cooking. A marketing capture is staged. Someone at Rockstar chose that composition, and they chose it for the same reason any art team does: it reads well.
This is exactly the failure mode we set out in how to read a promotional screenshot. An asset existing in a frame is not a system existing in the game.
What the set genuinely adds
Stripped of inference, the images still move several things forward.
Aircraft variety is broader than expected. A seaplane and a crop duster in the same 12 images suggests utility aviation is a real part of the roster rather than a token helicopter plus a jet. That fits the confirmed 200-plus vehicle count and our overview in GTA 6 aircraft.
Storms are being shown, not just described. Owen Shepherd described storm states as "heavy clouds, strong winds, dense atmospherics, and a lot of rain." Image 2 is that sentence rendered. It supports the localised weather rework detailed in the persistent weather and wind system piece.
Interior crime is small scale as well as large. A baseball bat, a register and one clerk is a very different register from a heist, and it lines up with what we wrote about store robberies and petty crime.
Ordinary NPCs use the scenery. Hikers on a bridge, sunbathers on a beach, drinkers at a pool table. The feature describes a world where crowd behaviour is tied to place. These frames are the evidence for that claim, and crowd density is the single hardest thing to fake in a still.
What a still cannot tell you
Worth restating plainly, because it applies to all 12 images:
- No frame rate information. A single frame contains no timing data. The 30fps baseline stands until Rockstar says otherwise.
- No platform information. Capture hardware is unstated.
- HUD absence proves nothing. Marketing captures routinely disable the interface.
- No mechanic can be proven. A visible object is an asset, not a system.
- Captions are not developer quotes. Only Aaron Garbut, Michael Kane and Owen Shepherd have been named and quoted in this cycle.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many new GTA 6 screenshots are there in Issue 382?
Twelve, alongside the 14-page cover story by Marcus Stewart and original Rockstar cover art of Jason and Lucia.
Do the screenshots confirm hunting in GTA 6?
No. One frame shows a sniper rifle and deer in the same shot. Rockstar has confirmed a wildlife tracking log with three tiers and has confirmed no hunting, skinning or crafting system.
Is the Dodo seaplane confirmed for GTA 6?
A seaplane matching the Dodo airframe appears in one of the 12 images. Rockstar has not published a vehicle list or named a single manufacturer for GTA 6, so treat the model name as a visual identification rather than a confirmation.
Did Issue 382 include a PC or GTA Online announcement?
No. No PC version, no multiplayer detail, no performance figures, no going gold confirmation and no change to the November 19 release date. The full list of what the issue did and did not contain is in our Issue 382 roundup.
The Bottom Line
Twelve stills is a generous drop this close to launch, and they are unusually useful ones: utility aircraft, a storm state, a bar interior, a working state park, small-time crime. None of it is a system reveal, and the frame with the deer in it is the one to be most careful with. Enjoy the images for what they are, which is 12 pieces of proof that Leonida is a lived-in place, and let the mechanics wait for Rockstar to describe them.
